We compared the regular prices of 641 Uniqlo items sold in both Japan and the US, from each country’s Uniqlo website on 3 October 2026. Every one was at least 15% cheaper in Japan for someone who lives in the US, after the tax refund. The typical (median) saving was 51%. For UK shoppers it was 48%.
Japan’s range is different, though: about half of the Uniqlo items sold in Japan are also sold in the US.

Regular prices from 3 October 2026, converted at the European Central Bank’s rates of 2 October. US prices here leave out sales tax, so the real saving for US shoppers is a little bigger.

Uniqlo’s Fleece Full-Zip Jacket (item 450195) was US$49.90 in the US and ¥2,990 in Japan. After the tax refund that’s about US$18.96: 62% less.
Tax-free shopping in Japan from 1 November 2026
- Japanese prices include 10% consumption tax. Visitors can get it back.
- The minimum is ¥5,000 before tax (about ¥5,500 on the tag) in one shop, on one day.
- From 1 November 2026 you pay the tax in the shop and get it back afterwards. Before you check any bags, go to a tax-free kiosk or the customs counter in departures with your passport and the goods.
- The shop refunds you once customs confirms: by card, bank transfer, app or cash, depending on the shop.
- Leave Japan within 90 days of buying.
